BIO: Chris Spencer, born in Boston, Massachusetts, was raised in a very musical family - both parents were recipients of music degrees from the University of North Texas. His mother, Paula, is an accomplished vocalist and his father, Richard, is a former professional jazz guitarist; both performing with the likes of such heavyweights as Chico Hamilton, Bob Berg, and Wallace Roney, and studying with guitar innovators such as John Abercrombie, Mick Goodrick, Jack Petersen, Pat Martino and Larry Coryell.
Chris started playing guitar in high school and studied with his dad, John Reed, and Clay Moore. Within a couple of years he was leading his own blues band and booking gigs in clubs all over the Austin, TX area. As word of Chris's talent spread he became a sideman in various bands, including Larry and jam scene favorites Groovin Ground, touring Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. Since 2004 Chris has gigged weekly as the guitarist for R&B artist Joe Valentine (formerly of the James Brown Revue and Joe Tex Band).
In addition to his professional club experience, Chris has devoted himself to music ministry. He became involved at the King of Glory Church in Austin, mentoring under Nic Gonzales, leader of the internationally known worship band, Salvador (Warner Bros. recording artists and Dove Award winner). For nearly two years Chris led a separate worship team at the church, which included Art Gonzales, drummer and co-founder of Salvador. After his time at King of Glory, he was hired on as Pastor of Worship at New Life Baptist Church.
Chris is now involved in an original Christian rock project, influenced by such groups as Switchfoot and Foo Fighters.
